Finding Your Ultimate Dress

Do you ever imagine yourself in that beautiful dress you saw in a magazine or hanging in a storefront window? Well, I did. After a three-week dress-shopping blitz, which included marathon-like walking, countless boutiques and several let-downs, I found my ultimate dress. If you do not want to find yourself in a similar situation, here is my advice to you: before jumping into this affair, do a little research beforehand, as it will most likely lead you in the right direction. Here is a list to help you get started.

Occasion

Is the tone of your event casual, semi-formal or formal? Knowing this in advance will not only save you shopping time, but will also save you from looking out of place. For instance, if you are attending a beach wedding go for something that is light and airy, rather than a long gown with 3-inch heels.

Wearability

Will you ever wear this dress again? If you are a one-time-dress-person, then please skip this section. For all you other women out there, ask yourselves where you could wear this dress again and if it can be dressed up or down with the help of accessories.

Cut/Shape

Classic (can it be worn for more than one season?) or trendy (will it look “outdated” next season?). Are you looking to accentuate or conceal certain areas? Ruffles are a good way to add volume to small chested women, while empire waists help conceal a fuller mid-section.

Color

Which colors are more flattering on you, which ones make you feel more comfortable? Are you looking to stand out from the crowd? If so, why not consider creating a high contrast look by choosing lighter or deeper hues depending on your skin tone: lighter skin tones should think of choosing darker color, while darker skin tones should look to choose lighter colors.

Investment

Consider how much you are willing to invest, which will in turn allow you to know which brands typically fall in your price range.

This is just a small list of things to consider when buying a dress for your special occasion. If you need more help, feel free to get in touch with me.

Here is to hoping that these tips will help you find your ultimate dress and that no one else will be wearing the same one!
