Rectangular? How to Dress for Your Body Type

Am I Rectangular?

Rectangular body shapes typically have few curves, meaning that your shoulders, hips and thighs are all similar in width, and you have no defined waist. You have a small or average bust size, and your overall body lines are straight (no curves). Does this sound like your body shape?

How To Create Curves?

Your goal is to wear tops that create the illusion of curves. Wrap tops are a great way to draw attention to your waist, and V-neck tops are another option to consider in that they elongate your neckline and emphasize your bust. Choosing tops with embellishments, such as beading, ruffles or lace will also create the appearance of volume where you need it most. Look for jackets that cinch you at the waist, as well as peplum style jackets that will instantly give the illusion of hips to help you add curves to your straight body lines.

When it comes to bottoms, your best options are flared or bootcut pants or jeans. A-line skirts are universally flattering so look to include this as one of your wardrobe essentials. Other skirt options include pencil, which will hug and accentuate the few curves you have, as well as flared or fluted skirts that will add dimension to your lower body.

What to Avoid?

You will want to stay away from straight cut pants or jeans, baggy clothing as this will hide your few curves, and bottoms that have a high waist.
