Tubular? How to Dress for Your Body Type

tubeFor the last post in the “How to Dress for Your Body Type” series, I will be looking at the tubular body figure, with tips on what to wear and what to avoid.

Am I Tubular?

Tubular body types are defined as slim to thin, and are generally below average weight. You have straight body lines, are angular and bony, and have few to no obvious curves. Your shoulders, waist, and hips are similar in width, and your body appears balanced.

How To Create Curves?

Ideally, you want to minimize your thinness and body angularity. As a result, you can pretty much emphasize any area you want, as well as lead attention wherever you like. You want to fill out your body above and below the waist. To add volume to your thin frame, choose horizontal details, like bold belts, stripes, yokes and epaulets. Another easy way to add volume is to layer your clothing. Look for bulky or highly textured fabrics, like knits, velours, and tweeds. Wearing different colors on the top and bottom will break up your thinner body shape. Choosing swing or peplum style jackets will add volume to your narrow hips.

When it comes to bottoms, flared or gathered skirts are a great option for the tubular body shape. Look for pants or jeans that have flap pockets, cuffs or any other type of design detail.

What To Avoid?

Avoid too many vertical design lines, as this will only further elongate your frame and make you appear thinner. Try not to wear clothes that are too tight, as it will accentuate your thinness. Also, do try to avoid wearing clothes that are too baggy, since you will look lost.
